At the beginning of the founding of the city of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono I, build a monument as a symbol of togetherness between the Sultan and the people of Mataram Yogyakarta to get land from Dutch intervention (known as Tugu Yogya ) . Renovation of the monument was conducted by the Dutch in 1889 when the reign of Sultan Hamengku Buwono VII with a different shape, which as seen at this time. After that golong gilig monument known as the white pal (pal means monument) because the colour white. The monument is now better known as Tugu Yogya, as a landmark of Yogyakarta city.
